Polymers for laser welding: Either unfilled or glass fiber reinforced polymer materials can be used for laser welding. However, too high a glass fiber content will scatter the IR laser, reducing the beam's penetration through the polymer. Colored plastics can also be used in laser welding technology, but as the pigment or dye content increases, the penetration ability of the laser beam through the plastic will decrease.
